Margrét Áskelsdóttir
Margrét Áskelsdóttir (f. 1984) er starfandi sýningarstjóri og ráðgjafi á sviði samtímamyndlistar. Hún var sýningarstjóri íslenska skálans á 61. Feneyjatvíæringnum (La Biennale di Venezia) 2026, í samstarfi við Unnar Örn, með sýninguna Pocket Universe eftir Ástu Fanneyju Sigurðardóttur. Margrét starfaði sem framkvæmdastjóri BERG Contemporary árin 2015–2019, var ráðgjafi listaverkasafns Seðlabanka Íslands á árunum 2020–2026, og var útgáfustjóri hjá bókaútgáfunni Crymogea árin 2011–2015. Hún hefur yfirgripsmikla reynslu af alþjóðlegum sýningarverkefnum og faglegri útgáfu um myndlist og menningu. Samhliða sýningarstjórn hefur hún frá árinu 2009 unnið markvisst að þróun verkefna sem skoða strúktúrtengsl myndlistar, fyrirtækja og mannauðs. Hún sérhæfir sig í markaðsstöðu, listráðgjöf og stefnumótandi fjármögnun menningarverkefna, þar sem hún brúar bil samtímalistar og fjármagns með áherslu á skipulagsleg tengsl þar á milli. Auk þess hefur hún yfirgripsmikla reynslu af samstarfi við einkaaðila, fyrirtæki og arkitekta að staðbundnum listaverkum innbyggðum í arkitektúr. Margrét er formaður Listfræðafélags Íslands frá árinu 2024 og hefur setið í stjórnum, ráðum og dómnefndum á sviði myndlistar, hönnunar og danslistar. Þar á meðal hjá Kynningarmiðstöð íslenskrar myndlistar, Myndlistarsjóði, Nýlistasafninu, Norrænu danshátíðinni Ice Hot, Íslensku myndlistarverðlaununum, gjörningahátíðinni Sequences, Art in Iceland, og Íslensku bókahönnunarverðlaununum (landsvali fyrir alþjóðlegu keppnina „Best Book Design from all over the World“ á vegum Stiftung Buchkunst). Hún hefur lokið prófi í listfræði, fjölmiðlafræði og frumkvöðlafræði.
Margrét Áskelsdóttir (b. 1984) is a curator, art consultant and corporate art manager specializing in contemporary arts. She was the Curator of the Icelandic Pavilion at the at the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia 2026, in collaboration with Unnar Örn, with the exhibition Pocket Universe by Ásta Fanney Sigurðardóttir. Margrét served as the Director of BERG Contemporary from 2015 to 2019, provided advisory services for the Central Bank of Iceland’s Art Collection from 2020 to 2026, and was the Publishing Director at Crymogea Art Books from 2011 to 2015. She has extensive experience establishing international exhibitions and publishing prominent literature on art and culture. Alongside her curatorial practice, she has maintained a continuous focus since 2009 on developing projects that explore the structural connection between art, corporate structures, and human resources. She specializes in market positioning, collection advisory, and the strategic financing of cultural projects, bridging fine art and financial capital while maintaining a dedicated focus on the structural links between them. Her expertise includes collaborating closely with private and corporate clients, as well as working with architects on site-specific art projects integrated into architecture. She is the president of The Association of Art Historians and Theorists in Iceland since 2024 and has held board, committee, and jury roles across visual arts, design, and dance. These include positions at the Icelandic Art Center, the Icelandic Visual Art Fund, The Living Art Museum, the Ice Hot Nordic Dance Platform, the Icelandic Art Prize, Sequences Real Time Art Festival, Art in Iceland, and The Icelandic Book Design Awards (the national selection for the international 'Best Book Design from all over the World' competition organized by Stiftung Buchkunst). Margrét holds degrees in art theory, media studies, and entrepreneurship.
